This year’s topic was “When is the Best Time to Honor our Heroes?”. The essays were judged according to content, communication of theme, grammar usage, and mechanics.  Saint Joseph Catholic School students, as well as all other seventh grade students in VFW District 10, Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte Counties were eligible to compete. Placheril’s essay will go on to compete against other finalists, and could possibly move on to state, then national competitions. As for Ms. Hill, the VFW will make their selection later in the year
